Why Not Knowing Your Purpose in Life Is Okay

Ah, the million dollar question these days; Purpose?  What is my purpose?

I've studied this question for years now, primarily because I've been trying to figure this out for myself.  I initially thought this was a huge question and once I figured it out, I'd discover who I am and finally "start" living authentically and making an impact.

Thankfully, my perspective has changed.  The saying, "It's not the destination that matters, it's the journey," now resonates with me, in such a definitive way.

Here is what I've gathered along the way about this topic and why I think it's okay to analyze it in a new way:
1.  Purpose can come in different shapes and sizes.  It does not have to be this grandiose idea.
2.  Purpose can show up in different stages/chapters of your life.
3.  Purpose can evolve.  It's not always one particular thing.                     4.  Purpose can blossom when you identify your values and consistently live your life in alignment with those values.

I recently heard a message that sums up my belief around purpose.  Jon Gordon stated, "Live on purpose, live with purpose.  Be intentional, and a greater purpose starts to flow through you."

Jon also provided some excellent words of wisdom that I have jotted down to refer back to as motivational reminders:

  • Uncomfortableness is how we grow.  Pain* is why we change. (*Remember pain can come in different shapes and sizes as well).
  • Our best days are ahead of us, not behind us.
  • Even when you are full of fear you can still take action, have faith, and trust.
  • Focus on the craft, not the outcome.

So don't worry if you can't answer this question right now.  It's okay.  It really is.  Instead, dive into your heart and discover how to live your life on purpose, with good intentions, and follow up with action and consistency.  In the moments when the negative self-talk, doubt, or fear of the unknown creep up, lean on faith and just give it a go.

With love,
