You know when you've been studying something, and you are not sure if it's sinking in and then all of a sudden out of nowhere it just clicks? I just had that moment, and the lesson was on praying. I know, did I just say praying? Yes, I did.
Growing up, I believed in a God that had a man's face. He had a white beard and floated behind the clouds. I would pray in the evenings before bed, at times I was just going through the motion or praying because I was scared or in need of forgiveness.
Today, I pray to a God that is a beautiful, loving light that lives in me, in nature, all around me and in others. I pray first thing in the morning, in the evenings, and now my big ah ha is praying throughout the day with no hesitation. Believe it or not, I use to apologize to God for praying about silly things. I would start by saying, God, I know you're really busy, and I'm so sorry to be bothering you with this silly thing, but here I go. I now have a new understanding and a new relationship with prayer. It's more than a daily practice -- it's a part of my life.
It's freeing to know that I don't have to go through my day alone doing all the heavy lifting. I have a higher power to lean on that is utterly dependable and always accessible.
This spiritual journey of mine has strengthened my relationship with God. As I continue on my path, I believe I will uncover my unique power, my purpose(s), and my connection to unconditional love.
William Paul Young, the author of, "The Shack," says, "Everyone is on such a unique journey to uncover the truth about who they are. I want people to have an encounter inside their own story because that's where the holy ground is. That's where God is burning away the things that aren't true." To apply this in my everyday life, I've learned to pray to God all day, every day. For the little things and the big things. For guidance, for support, to overcome daily fears, doubts, frustrations and then, of course, giving thanks for the beautiful moments that come up and for growth.
The book, The Universe Has Your Back, shares many prayers that have resonated with me. Below are just a few examples:
Thank you, God, for presenting me with this assignment for spiritual growth and healing. I am ready and willing to show up for this assignment with love. I welcome your support. Show me where to go, what to do, and what to say. I trust I'm being guided.
God, I step back and let you lead the way.
Thank you spirit for your guidance, I welcome you to reorganize all limiting beliefs back to love.
Thank you, Universe, for helping me see this obstacle as an opportunity. I will step back and let you lead the way.
And if you are uncertain about praying to God but are feeling inclined to pray to something bigger than yourself, try praying to the Universe, to Divine Light, to your Creator, to the Source of Love, etc. You get the idea.
I'm praying all day, every day to connect with my biggest supporters (God, spirit guides, angels) to help me see things differently, to find the hidden opportunities in challenges, to trust the process, and to see a little more clearly.
Sending you lots of love and light.
Growing and sharing...
