I picked this book up after listening to an interview with James Altucher on The Lewis Howes podcast. I started reading, Choose Yourself, in January, and I launched Together Unfolding in April. Now looking back, this book is what planted the seed for me, and with the support of the coaching of Keenan Benjamin, I took the idea that came to me and brought it to life.
This book gave me a fresh perspective on how to look at work, creativity, and of being of service. I also appreciated the spiritual undertones that I believe James wove into his stories.
I highly recommend this book if you are feeling stuck, bored, appreciative yet unsatisfied, or contemplating what your purpose is. Choose Yourself, is an easy read, funny, practical to implement, and I even found it validating because I was already following some of the daily practices that James recommends.
On a side note, please take a look at my Instagram pic. If you look closely, you will see that a dragonfly paid me a visit during a photo shoot for my site. I beamed with happiness when this happened. I took it as my sign that I am on the right path.
I earmarked so many pages, so it was hard to narrow down what I want to share with you all. Below are a few quotes from the book that resonated with me greatly:
"The idea muscle is no different than the writing muscle. It's no different than your leg muscles, for that matter. If you don't walk for two weeks, the muscles will atrophy. And you will need physical therapy to walk again."
"Everyday, read/skim chapters from books on at least four different topics."
"Write down ten ideas. About anything. It doesn't matter if they are business ideas, book ideas, ideas for surprising your spouse in bed..."
"List your childhood passions...We only ever remember the things we are passionate about. Ultimately, these become the fields where ideas bloom and are harvested. Everything else dries up inside and dies."
"Good for her. Don't be a hater! Ninety-nine percent of people are haters. Bless that which you want. If you want to be successful, you need to study success, not hate it or be envious of it. If you are envious, then you will distance yourself from success and make it that much harder to get there."
As I write this, I have made a mental note to read this book again. It's a good one, and if you download the kindle app, it's FREE!
Growing and sharing...
