“New recommendations ”
It takes conscious, constant and creative effort to make a life worth living. This podcast is about how other people keep themselves moving in the right direction – how they feed their good wolf.
I picked this book up after listening to an interview with James Altucher on The Lewis Howes podcast. I started reading, Choose Yourself, in January, and I launched Together Unfolding in April. Now looking back, this book is what planted the seed for me, and with the support of the coaching of Keenan Benjamin, I took the idea that came to me and brought it to life.
This book gave me a fresh perspective on how to look at work, creativity, and of being of service. I also appreciated the spiritual undertones that I believe James wove into his stories.
I highly recommend this book if you are feeling stuck, bored, appreciative yet unsatisfied, or contemplating what your purpose is. Choose Yourself, is an easy read, funny, practical to implement, and I even found it validating because I was already following some of the daily practices that James recommends.
My Top Episodes:
I've learned something from every interview that I have heard so far but if I had to choose, the following interviews are the ones that truly resonated with me:
"Home Cooking for Everyone: Easy, Fun, and Totally Delicious"
"Vegetarian or Vegan: The Health Benefits of Plant Based Diets"
"A Plastic Ocean: A Critical View on the Planet's Pollution"
"Spring into Action: Detoxify Your Life"
"In the book, Harris recounts how—with the help of various mental health professionals, religious leaders, self-help gurus, and news industry mentors—he stopped using drugs (cocaine and Ecstasy), discovered the benefits of meditation, and resolved the apparent conflict between meditation-induced equanimity and the aggressive competitiveness required for success as a TV-news journalist."
Why I recommend it:
“Books that have taken me further along my journey, one by one”
This was one of the first books I picked up when I started experimenting with meditation. This book eased a lot of the concerns that I had in the beginning.
The Power of Now is a deep read but I couldn't put it down. I found this book to be very insightful. I highlighted many - many pages. It gave me a deeper understanding about 'being present.' I will pick this back up in the future and re-read for sure.
The Magic is a light read. I gained a different perspective on how to truly exercise gratitude in my everyday life. So fun.
