5,4,3,2,1 and Go!

Have you heard of Mel Robbins?  She is a motivational speaker and creator of the 5 second rule. She has a TedTalk and book on this.  This rule she created was a life-changer for her during a very difficult time in her life.  I have used this rule on a smaller scale and it's crazy how well I find that it works.  Most recently I've used it for:

  • Those days that I know I need to release some endorphins.  For me, if I go a couple of days without running, a gray cloud starts to hang over my head and I become -- a grouch. The solution is simple...get outside and run.  So, in those moments, I countdown:  5,4,3,2,1 and go.  I get on my running clothes, shoes, and head outside.  It works every time and I feel 100% better after every run.
  • Laundry.  Ugh.  Laundry.  Just when I think I have it under control, I turn and there are mounds of clothes covering the laundry room floor.  I'm on this new kick of doing a load a day. I countdown:  5,4,3,2,1 and go.  I either put a load to wash, fold, or put away clothes.  I'm on my second week and staying ahead.

This rule can be applied in many different ways.  The next time you want to do something or are procrastinating - give it a try and see how it works for you.

To growing and sharing...
